Just Can't Get Enough

I'm captivated by the baby spiders. Captivated by my yard. Captivated by nature. Captivated by capturing it all digitally.  Hence, today, multiple photos.  Because I am overwhelmed by the beauty of nature in my little front yard.

Memoir Project

In Mourning

There were no posts this week, definitely not daily posts.  My apologies.

On Tuesday morning, after a Monday of a frighteningly ill cat, our beloved Senor Kisses Hermes Gato (Kisses) passed away in my arms.

It's been decisively difficult week.  There were other things too, but if you know me, you already know and if you don't, they're matters that involve people beyond my family and not appropriate to talk about on a fully public site.

So, we've been missing this beautiful boy all week.  And will miss him for weeks, months, and years to come.

I love you, Kisses.  You'll be my best buddy kitty forever.

HARDCOPY

Some snapshots on my phone from HARDCOPY, the book and zine fair I was at this weekend.

In My Foot

I mowed, reluctantly, the lawn today. In sandals.  I'm not well versed in lawn mowing safety.

I stepped on this, a giant scrap of metal left behind by the eavestroughing folks.

And then I had to pull it out of my foot.

Happy Accidents

I tried to mow the lawn.  The mower wouldn't start for me. (Karma, I say.  I hate lawns.)

I tried this: http://www.thespohrsaremultiplying.com/photos/photography-shaped-bokeh/  but the it didn't work for me either (I'd prefer to think this is unrelated to karma.)

I got this lovely photo though.  It would never have happened if the two above things had, in fact, worked out.

Happy Accident.  I kind of love it.

This Is Why, Why We Fight

(title borrowed without permission from The Decemberists)

Photos taken today at a protest at the Alberta Legislature where the Conservative Party is cutting $40million in funding to adults with disabilities.  They are hoping they can take from the already funded because they are voiceless.  And yet, the police presence was heavy.

Alberta, you leave me with a heavy heart.  This is wrong.  So incredibly and horribly wrong.

A is for Another Kind Of Building Block

So this building block has been kicking around my car for months.  I've paid it no heed, as lots of kid-related stuff kicks around my car.  I clean it out a couple of times a year.  More often than that is just frustrating because kid clutter re-accumulates so quickly.
Yesterday, my stepson picked it up and started reading out the words on the blocks...  Check it out.  Dunno how this thing ended up in my car (investigation leads me to a company in Texas that hand makes them) but it's one cool ass kid toy that I'm totally about to block print!

On the Maniacal block, I managed to make out, in the teensiest of letters, "Xylocopa Design."  Turns out there's a whole set of these building blocks to be had and they are all freaking awesome.

Check 'em out:
